I’m including a picture of my trusted writing friend instead my author’s photo. This little bear has been with me through some really tough times. Besides, after you finish book one of The Afterwards series, you will get a pretty good idea what I look like anyway.
A lot of people compare me to an owl because of my solitary and nocturnal tendencies. I agree with that characterization to a point. It’s true that I spend a lot of time alone, at all hours of the night, working on stories. But they would be surprised to hear I am extremely social and enjoy being part of teams and doing things in groups. I believe experiencing life, meeting new people, and nurturing friendships makes me a better writer.
Before I write, I like to score theme music for my stories. It sets the mood, tone, and helps me focus the direction of my story. I adore playing the piano and composing ominous melancholy pieces of music. I like feeling all those sloshing rising notes thundering in my head. It soothes my endless restless mind and inspires me to create.
I write what some people call binge-worthy books. I prefer to call them “immersives” because they engage all of your senses. They’re shorter than a typical novel and are packed with fast moving and exciting action. It feels like you’re watching an epic adventure television show or movie. The books instantly hook you and transport you into the story’s world. Once you’re in, you don’t want to get out. You want to know what’s going to happen on the next page, the next chapter, and before you realize it, you’ve finished the book and you can’t wait to read it again.
I enjoy edgy and dark coming of age stories. My books deal with important issues of gender identity and equality, rebellion, social justice, youth activism, and the pressures of growing up in a world that is sometimes filled with unrealistic demands. All this is intertwined in a fantasy nightmarish world where things are not what they seem. It’s up to the reader to figure out the twist and turns of the story’s labyrinth. You will find them incredibly addicting.
The main characters in my stories are always ordinary girls who are put in restrictive, impossible, and hopeless situations. They’re not afraid to defy the rules and do things their own way, even though they must face dire consequences for it. It’s not always easy for them, but they fight to overcome their obstacles and rely on themselves and not any super powers or magic. The girls may be flawed, sometimes brash, and a bit unconventional, but their relentless spirit and unwavering determination will surely work their way into your hearts.
So that’s a little background about me and what my books are all about. I know you’ll totally love reading them because the characters are a reflection of the badass in all of us. It’s that inner voice inside your head that crushes your fears, helps you find your inner strength, and pushes you to fight for what you believe in. It’s the voice that wants you to be free to chart your own way, live your life on your own terms without excuses, and be proud of those choices regardless if anyone else agrees with them or not. These stories are dedicated to you. So I invite you to read them, live a wonderful life, and fight on!
To my fellow writer owls out there in the darkness. Keep burning bright!
